Your gold jewelry does not have to look dull, with proper care you can keep them looking like new forever. Today we share with you some tips and advice so you can clean your gold jewelry at home, but not before reviewing the different types of gold we have.

Yellow gold

Yellow gold is undoubtedly the best known and the one that usually comes to mind first when we hear "gold". It is important to remember that the most resistant gold is 18 karat gold which, unlike silver, does not darken. Its cleaning is the easiest and fastest among all golds, however, to make it 100% shiny, the best option is to take it to the workshop so it can be polished.

White gold

On the other hand we have white gold which is an alloy of pure gold with other white metals such as silver, palladium, nickel or platinum. In addition, it is usually coated with a high gloss rhodium layer to obtain a mirror finish. Because of this, it is possible that after a while your white gold jewelry may lose its original luster. If this happens, the only way to clean the white gold is to take it to the jewelry store to have it re-coated with rhodium.

Rose gold

Although it is the least popular gold, its use is growing by leaps and bounds mainly because it is a more original and less known type of gold. It is made from an alloy of fine 24 karat gold, silver and copper. When it comes to cleaning your rose gold jewelry and recovering its shine, you will have to take it to the jewelry store to be polished.

The safest and quickest ways to clean your gold jewelry at home are as follows:

WATER AND NEUTRAL SOAP

Water and neutral soap or dishwasher are one of the easiest ways to restore the shine to your yellow gold, white gold or rose gold jewelry.

  1. In a bowl of warm water and add a little soap.
  2. Dissolve the soap well and soak the jewelry for several minutes, 10 minutes maximum.
  3. Gently scrub with a soft bristle toothbrush if the jewelry is very dull or dirty.
  4. Rinse with warm water, dry with a cloth and leave on a flat surface until completely dry.
  5. Shine with a cloth making small circles.

TIPS AND ADVICE

  1. Store your accessories in the original packaging or in a soft case to avoid scratches.
  2. Polish your gold jewelry frequently with a soft cloth to maintain its original lustrous finish.
